just a little - Elenka fancies a light show.

Sideman is just 19 kilometres south of Mount Agung, the volcano that blew its top the last time we were in Indonesia in 2017. Currently though, Agung is the single most non-event on the Isle of Bali. But that’s okay. People come to Sideman (elevation 419M) for other reasons now. Like the rice terraces; massages in the spa; self-analysis of belly buttons; and the magical climate. From seven in the morning till five in the afternoon Elenka and I stay mostly in the shade. But when the sun heads for the hills it feels as though Google has installed Bluetooth thermostats inside our bodies; it cools to perfection and stays that way until breakfast. In the five days we’ve been here we’ve started saying monotonous things like, Could the climate be more perfect than it is at Sideman? or Elenka’s favourite, I feel so wonderfully rejuvenated in Sideman. Soon, we’ll no longer be able to take one another. In the evening we sit on our veranda and wait for the music show to begin: lizards, amphibians and insects, big and small, and loud, join together in symphony until well after midnight.
.
Our balcony/terrace at Sawah Indah Villa, the resort we’re staying at, is about one-and-a-half times the size of the entire rusty-nail cabina we had in Raja Ampat. There is no coral reef here, but staff try and make up for it with a spa, infinity pool, smiles out the ying-yang and excellent chow. My only real complaint is that there’s nothing for me to bitch and whine about.

It is amazing how quickly the fields have changed! A month ago those rice paddies were growing beans or were mulched with straw... looking forward to returning in early March! Your pictures are a great reminder of why we love Sideman!
