The Sugar ´Loaf´ Daddy

Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
If we thought the view from Christ the Redeemer was something then the view from Sugar Loaf mountain, if possible, was even better. Looking back over the city you see how the city pans out and twists into the countours of the hills, spreading up them in patches. From Jesus it looks like everything is as one, but from Sugar Loaf you see each area as a pockets that connect to one another.

The cable car ride to the top is something in itself, its being going since1931 and you take it in two parts . The first one takes you to a smaller hill, Urca, that then drops you off to take another cable car to Sugar Loaf. At Urca you find a huge restaurant and many sun loungers and plenty of opportunity for photos.  Our handgliding had been cancelled due to the wind (Julie secretly relieved) and while we couldn´t understand it from the streets it was clear it would have been dangerous. As we went up the first stretch the cable car swung from side to side and on stepping out my cap and sunglasses were nearly blown clean off!

At the top of Sugar Loaf you can see all the way down the north and South coasts, wonderful sight and look down on the people moving in groups onto the cable cars. It appeared in the James Bond film "Moonraker" where Roger Moore and Jaws have a fight on top of one. If the wind hadbeen as bad as today they wouldn´t have gone onto make any more films together, would that have been a good thing? Probably not, Roger Moore rocks!
Christ the Redeemer stands acorss the the side of the city and from where we look out at him, it looks like a model city with a cross above it, a bit like you see at Christmas times in churches when they are showing the nativity.
