No change for notes....ever!

Cusco, Peru
All across South America so far there is one constant frustration. No-shop ever seems to have change. It was frustrating enough in Brazil and Bolivia, but Peru seems to be the worst. You can literally buy something for 8 soles (2 pounds), hand over a 10 note and watch as the mini-mart cashier shrugs and shuffles out the shop to find change somewhere else. It is like every time they make a sale they go straight to the bank and put it away for safe keeping in case they get robbed. In some instances we have actually been turned away because we don't have the right change. Very annoying, particularly as you only seem to get 100 soles notes from the ATM“s, not good in a place where you need to buy bottled water every hour.
