Adventure number 2

London, United Kingdom
Last night we had a wonderful dinner at a Mediterranean Restaurant and we were amazed that it was still light at 9.30.
Home to attend to some domestic rigour, washing, diary writing et al then planning what to do today , then hit bed!
Another quiet morning,we organised ourselves, checked the Australian newspapers ,had breakfast and headed off to Warren Street Station, deciding to buy a one day ticket, big mistake,we go to Euston Square Station and take a train to Liverpool Street Station .
We head for Folgate Street and walk down to Lamb Street and the Old Spitalfields Markets.
Spitalfields Market is one of London's best markets, with traders hawking their wares as they did in the early 17th Century. The covered market seen today was built in the late 19th Century with the more modern development added in 2006.It is open six days per week, but we are told that Sunday's are best and filled with fashion, food jewellery, food and music stalls.
It was a great experience and I certainly enjoyed talking to some very competent fashion designers strutting their wares.
We then moved onto Petticoat Lane Market which was on our way to the Tower of London.
This is a really old fashioned market set in an area rich in African food and textiles. The retail is basically cheap left overs from some of the main High Street Brands.
We walk on down Middlesex Street and head for Tower Bridge Road.We are both very grateful for the sound investment in quality walking shoes, and we digress into a pub for a beer, wine and a cod and chips .The pub ,Goodman's Field is certainly worth recommending. A good choice with a hygiene rating if 5!
We walk to the Tower of London, then to tower bridge and endeavour to walk across this absolutely awesome construction.
London was a thriving port in 1894 when this bridge was built. It was designed to be raised to allow ships to pass, though electricity has now taken over from the original steam and hydraulic engines.A lift leads up the northern tower to the Tower Bridge Exhibition.
We then walked along
the Queen's walk and returned by crossing the Thames via London Bridge.
We passed by Sir Christopher Wren's 1677 column, this is a memorial to the Great Fire of London in 1666.It is an immense Doric column made of Portland stone,it is 4.5 metres wide and 60.6 metres tall, the exact distance it stands from the bakery in a Pudding Lane where the fire started.
We headed up past Lloyds of London and went to Bank station in Lombard Street.
We caught the train to Tottenham Court Road then headed back to the apartment after purchasing some supplies.
Another very full day!
The weather has been extraordinary ,absolutely warm, sunny and very conducive for travel!
We are attending to some menial tasks this evening,in preparation for our venture for tomorrow.
We have to pack up and clean the apartment, catch a cab to Marble Arch and pick up our mode of transport,a car,and head to Cornwall, staying at Brioni Apartments in Seaton in Looe.
A need for a good nights' sleep ready for tomorrow's adventure.

Wow! Sounds amazing! Remember you have to move over for motorcycles in the UK, they are allowed to come past you and filter, otherwise you'll get revved at or beeped. I can taste the old English pub beer now. Mmmmmmm.

Hi Jan,
Hi Jan,
You're not going to believe this. I didn't know your husband's name is Bernie. My long time friend that i just travelled to Japan with is Jeannine Walsh. And, you guessed it, her husband's name is Bernie!
Cheers
Di
