A rainy day in Penang.

Air Itam, Penang, Malaysia
Yesterday we woke to another amazing storm with torrential rain ,thunder and lightning.
This conveyed an indication that it was going to remain for a while so we attended to some chores and watched "American Hustle " one of the numerous DVD's we have acquired over the past week .
The sky cleared mid afternoon so we went for a walk up to the far end of the Ferringhi strip, endeavoured to make a booking at "The Living Room" for dinner, caught up with a woman who owned a shop with her husband near the Casuarina Hotel many years ago,and headed to a place we still call Blue Bayou for a drink before heading back to the apartment.
Bernie and I walk miles ,we wonder sometimes why we feel stiff and sore at the end if the day.
We headed out to "The Living Room" for Bernie's birthday dinner and caught up with the owners Ben and Aimie and met up with some expats we met last Friday.
We both felt like British Fish and Chips so that is what we ordered .
The Living Room has a high rating with Trip Advisor and I can highly recommend it .
We have had some wonderful evenings there when visiting muso's have strutted their style.
There is to be a music evening this Friday so I am sure we will be there.
We talked the evening away with Jane and Rob,they are from Western Australia and spend 6 months here each year, they have purchased an apartment at Miami Green .
They informed us of a fantastic wine shop where you can purchase good quality wines at good prices and then enjoy a meal after you have made your selection.
This morning ,we caught a 101 bus into the Komtar in Georgetown, this is an experience, and cruised around the shops. The Komtar was the first main shopping complex in Penang and I still have vivid memories of getting lost in amongst the rabbit warrens and having no problems locating the toilets as you could smell them a mile away.It is a sad place today as stylish shopping complexes have taken over and priorities have changed. Hygiene aspects have improved markedly in so many areas. We had lunch at the First Avenue Food Hall which caters for locals with great local good then caught a cab out to the Wine Bar.
We perused the stock, had a glass of wine, and purchased some goodies and headed back to the apartment.
We have organised to take another couple from Western Australia ,who are in apartment 1604 ,for lunch at the wine bar on Friday.
Tomorrow our cleaning person comes so we will go to the market and perhaps have breakfast out.
We are heading into the Hungry Ghost Festival so over the next few days I will discuss the story behind this significant Chinese Festival and share some photos.
The smoke has returned again this afternoon and we have lost all visibility from our balcony.
The school children are on holidays this week so the pool area here is very busy.
Most people have returned home after Hari Raya and it will be a little more sedate when the children return to school.
