Smoke gets in your Eyes:

Air Itam, Penang, Malaysia
The smoke from Indonesia is really intrusive and we have had a couple of overnight storms but the rain only clears the environment temporarily.
Yesterday we could barely see the surrounding areas from our balcony .
We walked to the market and purchased our fruit and vegetables then returned to the apartment ,then headed down to the beach.
The beach is quite rough at the moment and it is very difficult to walk along as it is cut away and the sand is very course grained and pulpy to walk on. Great for exercise!
The water is filthy, there has not been a lot of rain and the little we have had has really churned the foreshore area, you can see the mud that has been distributed by the streams coming in from the surrounding hills.
The school holidays are over today and there has been a mass exodus from the Apartments.Visitors started heading out yesterday back to KL.
Evidently the road traffic to KL is supposed to peak today at about 1.00.
Normality returns tomorrow.
We have been zapping around on the 101 and 102 buses,it is a good service, the buses are modern and cheap. It costs approx .80 cents to go to GeorgeTown from here.We cannot complain about that.
Yesterday we went to Andrew's sisters restaurant for an omelette each and it cost us the equivalent of $3 .00 for both together.
Freshly cooked food here is wonderful and cheap.
I purchased a chicken and some spices to make a curry yesterday, and the chicken cost $3.00.
This was from a wonderful new supermarket at the new Paragon Complex at Gurney.
We have kept away from the pool over the last few days as it has been very busy.Tomorrow will be quieter, one hopes.
We are hiring a car on Tuesday, for the week as we want to venture out to some of the old haunts and I certainly want to have a look at some fabric at Kamdah,at Bukit Jambul.
Tomorrow we thought we would go to the Jetty to book our train tickets to KL.
We thought we would go down there again, stay for a few days and come back on the train .
We certainly enjoyed it last time.
Still no sun and we cannot see the mainland at the moment for the smoke. It is very concerning!
Dengue Fever is rearing its head in some areas of Malaysia and today's newspaper has double paged spread explaining what it is and how it can be prevented.
Dengue is a mosquito- borne infection found in tropical and sub tropical regions around the world. In recent years transmission has increased predominantly in urban and semi urban areas and it has become a major international public health concern.
Mosquitos have never been an issue to us on our holidays here and
to date this continues to be the case.
