We have walked miles once again last week fossicking around Little India in Penang and spending time in some of our favourite haunts.I found a wonderful Indian Sari shop which sells fabrics and they have wonderful silk for the equivalent of $8.00 Australian a metre.
Saris are made in one piece these days ,you do not need to fold them around your waist and pleat them .You purchase your fabric they measure you,make your under blouse and then put a band on the skirt ,with an attachment to fasten it ,then what is left is thrown over your shoulder as the attached scarf absolutely brilliant.The shops are a visual feast.
We travelled to Kuala Lumpur on Monday morning with a 5.00 early morning as we had to catch the ferry to Butterworth ,then catch the 8.00 train to Kuala Lumpur.
It is a 6 hour journey and it is a bit of a rattler but you get a great view of the countryside,plenty of oil palms .
We are staying at the Parkroyal Hotel ,this is very close to the Bukit Bintang monorail station station,so it is very easy to commute around the city.
We have been to China Town and to the art and craft market.Petronas Towers loom close by.
Yesterday we walked to little India but were a little misguided by the "sanitised " map so we are heading to Brickfields,to the old little India today.
It is very warm and we have had a couple of night storms.In Penang we have had the most amazing thunder storms with fork lightning and very heavy rain.This happens at night which helps to clear the air so the mornings are clear and fresh before the smoke seeps in.
The shopping centres here are absolutely amazing and you can do your daily exercise by just walking around them as they are so vast!
There are so many new high end shops,you never see anyone in them ,it is staggering!
We are here until tomorrow. we catch the train back to Penang at 4.00 getting us back to Butterworth at 10.00,then we catch the ferry over to Penang,so another big day.
Yesterday afternoon we visited the pool,it is outside,very refreshing.
Currently the sun is shining but there are indications that the smoke is on its way again.
