Car trouble in Kaunas

Kaunas, Lithuania
Klaipeda is important to Lithuania's for a number of reasons. It is the country's only sea port, is the only place where large cruise ships call and is the entry to the Curonian Spit National Park. The park is very popular with beach goers, cyclists and walkers, though lovely weather that it is, I don't think anyone would be swimming outdoors yet. There was a queue for ferry over there so I assume it is already popular again.

The town has a German feel and endless streets of those dratted cobble stones, pretty that they are. Along the river are converted warehouses and hotels. We were very happy to come across a couple of places by the river selling smoked fish of various kinds. The smell was great, the price was very reasonable, and what we had tasted good.

We continue to be surprised at how well dressed many people are. Even more so here than in Latvia. Just walking around town are men as well as women with very stylish outfits. It is not really the norm these days, but it looks great. In Kaunas, where we stayed 2 nights, the Saturday evening crowds were really swish. Lots of young women with beautifully shiny long hair that looked recently trimmed. Nice outfits that were trendy but not as revealing as tends to be the fashion elsewhere.

We had a really good wander around Kaunas. We had large barn like apartment and so had time to relax and regather. Spent even longer here than we had planned as on Monday morning the car would not start. Bob had already called the Rental Company on Saturday as various indicator lights were on but they said all would be fine. But it wasn't. We were lucky we could check out later from the apartment, as it was raining at times. Eventually another car arrived from Riga. so now instead of a red VW Polo we have a grey Toyota Yaris. And so we headed for Druskininkai.
