We start the day with an extended and delightful breakfast at the Pavilion cafe on the breakwater. It sits high with expansive views around the sheltered foreshore bay on one side and the wild ocean action to the other. The food is excellent so it's no surprise it's buzzing.
It fuels us for a drive west to Port Fairy and we are delighted with what we find
. Charming township full of classified buildings, quality boutiques, pleasant foreshore walk, picturesque river.
Catharine delights in and collects scores of little shells which are beautifully patterened. The only thing missing is some pelicans...
Our return drive diverts to Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve, a Parks Victoria area within an extinct volcano. As such, it offers soaring volcanic rock walls, a lake in it's base and assorted animals happy to live amongst the lush vegetation.
We spot one koala, half a dozen emus and numerous blue fairy wrens. No pelicans, but it's a great find...
The weather throughout the day has seen drizzle come and go but clears enough for us to walk three blocks into town for dinner.
Piccolo Restaurant - excellent.
