FRIDAY 13th January, Lockington, Victoria. 17°-38°C.
Hello Bird watchers!
It’s been three seasons since my van last saw the road. Much crocheting at home and a new grandson since then but it’s time to get out again. I have been keen to resume volunteer work of some sort after lying low since 2019. BlazeAid is a charity that I have long admired for their work. They rebuild fences for farmers after bushfires and floods and they now have four camps open in northern Victoria.
Not that I’m heading out fencing in this summer heat with my Celtic complexion!
I’ve volunteered as a cook and was seduced by the term “industrial dishwasher” in the details for the camp at Lockington! We are 30km SW of Echuca with a small group of only ten at the moment. I had no idea what I might be getting myself in for but one lady is already the mains cook and has happily handed cakes and desserts to me.
Fortunately, the kitchen has two air conditioners.
And there’s apparently a legendary ice cream shop and a nearby public pool that’s free!
