Still in Leon

León, León, Nicaragua
Well, I am still in Leon. I liked hiking the volcano so much the other week, I decided I would hang out here for a couple more weeks and volunteer to help out Quetzaltrekkers, the organization that leads the hikes.

As an assistant guide, the hikes are free for me and it´s just plain fun . It´s a good cause too as their profits go to another org that helps street kids and children at risk here in Leon. I am amazed at the number of kids prowling the streets for a handout of a coin or some scraps of food. One kid wanted to know if I could take him to the store so I could buy him some shoes. Anyway, the problem right now is that there aren´t many tourists coming through at the moment and no one is signing up for the hikes. So other than visiting an old fort on my own, it hasn´t been real busy here. If things don´t pick up soon, I´ll probably move on to Managua or Granada. Obviously, if there is no one to guide, there´s nothing much for me to do.

I have some pretty cool photos from the roof of the Basilica(the largest Cathedral in C. Amer.) Check those out when I get them posted.
