Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia
Well, I find myself employed again as I accepted a job teaching english at the Colombo Americano Institute here in Santa Marta. Job requirements include an updated resume, certification teaching english as a foreign language, teaching experience, and thorough knowledge of the workings of english grammar. Yeah right .. they had a teacher leave for another job at the last minute when I stumbled across the opportunity. Since the course director is moving to Pennsylvania to go to college 20 minutes down the road from where I used to live, the job requirements changed from "strict" to "you seem nice and speak english very well". No shit? However, between teaching classes, studying the past continuous and present participle tenses, and renewing my passport stamp to stay in Colombia, I´ve been busier than a one-legged ass kicker lately!

Last week I had to go to the immigration office with 2 photos, photocopies of my passport and Colombia entry stamp, and proof that I am leaving the country . For that, I bought a bus ticket to Venezuela. Plus I paid $57,800 pesos for the stamp. I make $9000 pesos an hour at work, and that should be enough to cover my living expenses. So basically, I don´t think I need to use any of my savings to continue staying here. I guess I can look at it as if I am traveling for free... sort of. My classes are Monday thru Friday teaching adults for an hour and a half each class. I have two classes, level 2 and level 3 ... whatever that means... which kills my time from about 4 to 8 each night. So far, it´s actually pretty fun and seems like a good reason to stay somewhere nice.
