Well after 2 flat tires on the bus to get here, I finally made it to Uyuni, home to the world's largest salt plain, Salar de Uyuni.
 Uyuni is a small desert town that sits at 12,000 feet(3600m) in altitude and although pleasant by day, becomes absolutely frigid the split second after the sun sets . I am wearing almost everything from my backpack to keep warm...which is nice cause the pack is far lighter...plus a wool hat and some gloves I recently purchased for three dollars. Because this is a desert, it's really hot here in the South American summer and, for whatever reason, the locals have chosen to leave their homes and businesses uninsulated from the cold that winter brings...which is right now... nor have they invested in any form of central heating. So calling it a night and retiring to my hotel room means nothing when it comes to getting warm. There is no difference between the temperature outside and inside my room. I sleep with nearly every article of clothing I wear to walk the street, plus my new hat, and I am still cold half the time! I thought I was in search of warm weather: I've never been colder the entire trip! A severe miscalculation on my part.

And as planned, I met up with James and Marie, a couple I met while traveling through Brazil, and the search is on to find a quality tour agency to take us in into the Salar. It promises to be a fantastic tour if we can find a reliable guide that prepares good food and we can manage to stay warm.
