Angkor Wat

Siem Reap, Khétt Siĕm Réab, Cambodia
Built between 1113 and 1150, Angkor Wat is the largest religious monument in the world.

And this is no doubt one of humankind's most amazing architectural achievements . It is said to be a complete microcosm of the Hindu universe. Whatever...I just think it's really damn cool. Some of the amazing highlights include over 600 meters of carving right into the stone wall and about 2000 apsaras which are these sexy celestial maidens carved all over the place. Clearly, the girls they modeled these after were not eating at the Angkor McDonalds three times a week. The temples themselves stand quite tall and building them without modern equipment must have been a pain in the ass.  I'm glad I wasn't around for it as it looks like hard work.

This was day 3 of my visit to Angkor and a special thanks goes out to my motorbike driver, Rinn, who took me around safely to all the sights and didn't drive like an idiot like so many of the locals seem to do. There are not so many rules to the road here...it mostly comes down to simple physics. Size wins and loud horns get results. Other than that, don't crash into anything and all should be fine. Oh, and don't forget, stay on the path to avoid land mines!

Once again, lots of photos. Some photos have a brief story attached like the one with the monkey.
