Continuing my motorbike exploration of southern Cambodia, I headed over to Kampot, a former Khmer Rouge stronghold and a place still catching on to tourism. The 100 km (60 miles or so) trip over here from Sihanoukville was pretty cool and I took what I thought were some good photos of some of the fishing villages and the way of life around here. Another thing I've realized about Cambodia....if it has wheels, it can be overloaded. You should see what people can transport with a motorbike or scooter! Back home it's pick-up truck territory but these people make do with what they have.

My second day here, I met a Danish guy with a rented scooter and we explored around the countryside ...staying on the paths of course...where we found some trails near the mountains and rode through villages and rice paddies. It's dry season here so the only rice fields they are using right now are close to a water source like a river or lake, which we also got to see. My third day here took me down to Kep, a fishing village famous for seafood and being a former beach resort town before the Khmer Rouge destroyed it.

This place is quiet but nice. Time to head back to Phnom Penh though. I need to get the visa in advance for my next destination country...... plus, I still have almost two weeks to spend here in Cambodia. What will I do???

Lots of photos with this entry. It's been great to go wherever I please on the motorcycle and see the things that most tourists never will.
