Arequipa and The Colca Canyon, Peru
I'm back in Arequipa, a city I know rather well from my previous travels.
And the only thing I can think about is how much a condor might taste like a turkey . Tomorrow is Thanksgiving back in the USA and I want a proper meal complete with some sort of large bird, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and gravy. And pumpkin pie... I want pumpkin pie! For the record, I got none of those things. What I did get, however, is very lucky photographing one of the largest birds in the world, the Andean condor. With a 10 foot wingspan (that's 3 meters for all you metric-heads) it ranks second in size only to the California condor. So to see the 2nd largest bird in the world glide effortlessly through the 2nd deepest canyon in the world, it is nothing less than inspiring. And to top it all off, my photos don't suck.

This is the just the beginning of a three day trek into the Colca Canyon....the actual hike down(and back) is the next entry.
