Back in the Land of Processions

Cusco, Cusco, Peru
From Lima we took a flight back to Cusco in order to visit Machu Picchu before we go home. We arrived on a lovely sunny day and the main plaza was filled with people.

We spent some time here during March but at that time the Inka city was inaccessible due to the floods and landslides and there were many fewer people around the town. This time we just had one day here and didn't expect to do much before travelling onwards towards Machu Picchu the next day.

We were welcomed back in true Cusco style by yet another series of processions. This time it was in celebration of Corpus Cristi and involved huge statues being carried around on platforms, accompanied by bands of musicians, colourful costumes and lots of followers.

It seemed to go on most of the day and into the evening. They like a good festival in Cusco! But for us it was pizza at Chez Maggy's and an early night in preparation for our journey to Machu Picchu Pueblo tomorrow.
