Skido riding, yoo hoo.

Dease Lake Canada, British Columbia, Canada

Lou and Des were up early because Lou had managed to wrangle a ride on the skidos of the guys we'd met in the restaurant the previous night . Off they went, happy as two little kids, and into the pick-up truck of Dan and his mates. Dan, coincidentally enough is a shopfitter too.

It seems that the boys had a great time because they were pretty happy and worn out when they came back to the motel. Dan and his mates were heading on to the state of Alberta that afternoon, a decent drive from Stewart, but there was four of them to share the driving. They were also towing a huge trailer with 4 skidos in it, plus the one in the back of the pick-up. Boys with their toys.

We were on the bikes by 8:30am and stopped awhile to talk to guy who had lived in Stewart for 50 years, was happily married and had seven children. We meet some nice folks as we travel round the world.

We had not a drop of rain today, and it was a pleasant 8 to 12 C degrees all day. We negotiated some gravel roads, and a couple of metal bridges . The frozen lakes were beautiful and made for lovely roadside stops.

Six black bears made themselves visible to us during the day’s ride. I shared a bridge with a moose, who skipped along in an ungainly fashion, up the roadway with me behind him on the motorbike. Eventually, he disappeared into the forest, maybe he would pop out again when Lou and Lynn come down the road. Iskut was our lunch stop of boiled egg, mushroom and mayonnaise sandwiches.

We fueled up at Dease Lake, 91 octane petrol was $1.39 per litre.

Tanzilla Pub turned out to be our overnight stop. June and her husband and son ran the pub and reckoned there were about 300 people in Dease Lake (on a good day). The rooms were cosy enough, so we tucked ourselves into bed and had an early night, even though it was still as bright as day outside.
