Still blowing a gale!

Kooddoo, Gaafu Alif Atoll, Maldives
The weather since we got here has been very unseasonable (apparently). It is monsoon season and is supposed to be calm and warm but the rain that we have been getting is quite torrential at night and the wind has been blowing day and night.
They tell us that it is getting better next week, and I hope they are right since we haven’t braved the choppy sea to get out snorkeling yet.
Last night was Sri Lankan night at the restaurant, so we had a variety of delicious curries and the specialty which was a fried egg in a basket made of thinly cooked egg wash , with very spicy sauce.  Ross had the very very spicy sauce, which I avoided. Just as well because the milder one made my tongue go numb anyway.
After spending most of the day sipping cocktails and eating the complimentary chocolate from our mini bar it was back to the room for an early night.
This morning was spent with a swim in the pool and then off to lunch when the weather came in squally again. The delightful staff cater to your every need and we had milkshakes with our meal of roasted duck.
Followed by another cocktail and tea and coffee. It’s a hard life!
We decided to try and get an activity organised for tomorrow so we went off down to the hut that has all the jet skis and paddle boards, and where they make the bookings for the activities that are included in our package. With the weather being what it is, the dolphin watching had been cancelled, so the guy there recommended that we wait until next week when the weather is supposed to calm down.
He talked us into booking some stand up paddle boards for tomorrow morning, but I have my doubts as to whether we will actually be able to do any standing up on them if the sea is as rough as it is at the moment.
Anyway we can always cancel them if need be, but if you don’t book things then you can miss out.
The guy there said that the dive boat goes out even if it is rough because it’s okay when you get under the water, but I was hoping we’d get an easy dive for the first one we’ve had in several years.
I can only hope for one of those delightful dive guides that haul you up out of the water still fully geared  up after the dive, by the back of your tank. So much easier than that unpleasant business of climbing up ladders. Lol
It is lovely and peaceful here, even though the airstrip is virtually right behind the resort. You hardly hear the planes that come sporadically during the day, as there is a strip of thick jungle in between . We’ve seen flying foxes gliding among the trees.  One was even hanging in a tree this afternoon.
The villas are separate from each other and there is no loud blaring music, and of course, no barking dogs or crowing roosters. There are boats going past out beyond the water villas that you only see when walking out there, and the jet skis have not been doing much since the water is a bit rough for them at the moment.
We’re hoping to have a go on them when it calms down, but that will be done very carefully because, as the staff at the kiosk told us, you scrape the jet ski bottoms, you pay to fix them!
There are two restaurants here. The main one where they have breakfast and the buffet’s including the theme nights, and another smaller Italian restaurant which is set out on the water. It looks particularly lovely and we will go there for dinner tomorrow night.
It would be the perfect place for a honeymoon, and I’m sure that some of the couples here are doing just that. No screaming kids is another bonus!
Tonight we have the Managers cocktails at 6.30pm, before the barbecue buffet which should be very nice.
It’s all very civilised, even with the unlimited drinks included. If you are expecting a Maldivian Ibiza then this is not the place for you!

Good luck with the weather, it would be a shame to have to just eat great food and sink cocktails for another week...
