Kooddoo, Gaafu Alif Atoll, Maldives
The risotto last night was nice, but not in the same league as the pumpkin ravioli. Actually I think mine is better. Anyway the restaurant was pleasant and the pannacotta was delicious.
Today the wind was back to an unpleasant level which was really whipping up the waves out along the reef edge.  Needless to say, snorkeling was out of the question again, due to the chance of drowning in the water washing down our snorkels.
Ross decided against the palm tree climbing activity, and it really wasn’t my cup of tea, so, after a light breakfast we snagged a couple of sun loungers by the pool, and settled in to read our books.
There was a lady out on the stand up paddle board who was making a valiant effort in the rough seas. She managed to stay up right for the best part of an hour. I was impressed! but she was nowhere near as entertaining as the young guy who had a couple of spectacular falls off his.
I tried a little snorkeling this afternoon between the shore in front of our villa, and the start of the over water villas, but there wasn’t much to see in the murky water and the swell made finning away from the shore a little nauseating. I did see a few trigger fish that were getting tossed around a coral bommie, and a small parrot fish. No sharks though since I didn’t go out as far as the drop off. I pretty much surfed back into shore on the little waves.
Ross has declined another dive tomorrow so I will give it another go and just follow the guide. Hopefully it will be more successful than the last one.
We have a snorkeling trip booked for Tuesday. They take you out in the boat somewhere (sometimes just to the edge of the reef), so I hope the wind will calm down by then.
Monday we have booked a dolphin cruise at 4.30pm, but that will probably get canceled if the weather is not conducive to dolphin watching. Maybe the dolphins would enjoy surfing the waves??
The wooden boat rocks around a bit so you wouldn’t want to be too inclined to sea sickness.
It’s such a pity about the choppy seas. The last time we were in the Maldives it was lovely and flat. Thank goodness, since we were on a liveaboard dive boat!
