It’s still blowing a gale today, just for something different. I refused to let it beat me though, and ventured out to try and snorkel on the reef this morning.
I stayed for a little while but since it was very rough and very shallow over the coral, it wasn’t a good idea, considering coral cuts can be very nasty.
There were a few fish sheltering from the swell and a couple of nice schools of Convict surgeon fish, and Ross tells me that a black tip shark followed me out away from the jetty. I didn’t see it though, typical shark!
I went for a long ocean swim after the snorkeling to get in a bit of exercise. It was rather challenging in the swell, especially going across it, but it was good exercise.
The dive shop rang up after lunch to say that the dive had been cancelled for this afternoon, since the boat is still broken. That didn’t particularly bother me since I didn’t actually have a dive booked for this afternoon. However it was a bit disappointing that we also wouldn’t be going on the dolphin trip which we had booked for 4.
30pm.
It’s all a bit strange here. They have a dive shop and a water activities shop, and they are at opposite ends of the beach and they don’t communicate with each other. You go to one and they tell you that you have to go to the other for bookings.
The guys at the dive shop told us that the boat was broken but they didn’t know anything about the dolphin trip which was meant to be on the same boat (we only have one!). The dive shop only knows about diving, so we were told! Although since they thought I was on a dive this afternoon, they are not too sure about that either.
We were also supposed to go on a snorkeling trip tomorrow morning, but nobody seemed to know what was happening with that, until Ross went to the water activities kiosk and after a tedious chat with the guys there (who all seem to have been smoking copious amounts of weed), he discovered that the snorkeling trip wouldn’t be going either.

I think we did manage to book a half hour ‘jet ski safari’, (bomming about on a jet ski for half an hour following the guide) for tomorrow morning.
That remains to be seen when we turn up at 10.15am.
We went for a swim and a cocktail by the pool this afternoon but they forgot Ross’s cocktail. It was a ‘crunchy punch’ and was supposed to have, of all the strange things, curry leaves, so I reckoned it was the wrong time of the year for curry leaves.

He did manage to get one later, minus the leaves (which I reckon was probably a good thing!) but he’s decided that they are ignoring him here like people do to me when we are in Singapore. I seem to be invisible there as everyone keeps running into me.
Tonight there is a disco night at the Vista sunset bar, so that will be interesting. We missed the last one as we were too tired that night, but there was an invitation on the bed after the guy made up our room this morning, so we will go and have a look this evening.
It’s seafood night again at the buffet so Ross is happy.
The wind has abated very slightly this afternoon so I am hoping that the crap coming from the Arabian Sea is coming to an end. Fingers crossed that the sea is a bit calmer and we can get out and have a decent snorkel along the drop off tomorrow. That’s what I came here to do after all.
