Boat still broke

Kooddoo, Gaafu Alif Atoll, Maldives
We awoke to a torrential downpour again this morning, which gave way to the usual howling wind.
They had put up a red flag at the water activities kiosk, which I surmised must not mean anything good, and after I wandered down there after not seeing any jet skis in the water, of course it meant that our jet skiing was canceled.
After much deliberation we decided that the best plan of action for the day, would be to saunter down to the Vista restaurant for a pizza at lunch, and then go upstairs to the games room for a few games of pool.
The guys at the Vista were happy to see us since they had no other customers, and, as they are at a bit of a distance from the main part of the resort, there aren’t any other staff to chat to. At least our lunch order gave them something to do for half an hour.
While we were eating our pre lunch bread, the plane taxied down the runway which attracted Ross’s attention and that of one of the young waiters.  Photos were taken, and then the piping hot pizza arrived.
After lunch we went up the spiral staircase to the games room above the restaurant. It is nicely laid out with a pool table, darts , and various games amid the little tables and chairs, and also sported a large television on one wall.
Ross thrashed me at pool, and then we had a game of darts. There were numerous tiny holes in the wooden floor below the board, and we added to them somewhat as we played ‘around the board’.
Getting the bullseye proved to be impossible due to the fact that there was really just a hole where it had been overplayed and we reckoned that the darts would just keep bouncing off the wood, so we called it a tie and left to check out the state of the reef drop off.
I went for a walk out to the end of the wooden walkway that leads out to all the over the water villas but when I got to the ladder the water still looked pretty rough over the reef where it gets deeper, so I decided to give snorkeling a miss. There weren’t any other people out there either.  Most of them here seem to be content to snorkel over the sand.  Not very exciting, but safe none the less. I did get a good laugh at one dopey Aussie bloke who was attempting to walk across the sand wearing his fins.
I have a dive booked for tomorrow afternoon but it remains to be seen if that will happen due to the big boat still being out of action.  They do have a plastic dingy with an outboard motor stowed on the beach, and I reckon that would suffice for a dive out on the drop off, but they don’t seem to use it.
If they carted the dive gear out to the end of the walkway, we could even get in there for a dive. It doesn’t matter about the waves so much when you can get down deep out of the surface chop.
We went for a swim in the pool late this afternoon and were briefly entertained by a guy getting towed on an inflatable thing by a staff member on a jet ski (they were back in action this arvo but of course we hadn’t booked for then!).  They were flying along and the thing would turn over on the corners and the poor bloke would get flung into the water. Unfortunately he only lasted about 5 minutes before giving up. I don’t think it was as much fun as he was expecting. Doh!
Another nasty looking storm rolled in later and I was rather concerned when I saw them setting up the beach for another wedding, but, true to type, the weather settled enough by 5pm for them to have their nice beach wedding, if not a little wind blown.
We got the wrong night for the disco last night, so if we’re not too tired after dinner (it’s hard work lying around reading all day), we might wander over and check it out.
They’re not big on partying here so it will probably be pretty tame.

Sorry the weather has been so poor for your long awaited "away from Australia" trip. Hope the rest of the trip is going well.
