Cradle Mountain

Moina, Tasmania, Australia
It has turned wet and windy today with another cold front coming through. Not such good weather for hiking as you can't even see the mountain and there is an annoying misty rain which is blowing sideways. We are ever hopeful for a change like we had yesterday so we can get a walk in this afternoon/evening.

We went to the Tasmanian devil breeding centre this afternoon . It is located just up the road from where we are staying and is a large area where they are breeding and studying the devils and Quolls and releasing them back into the wild.
There were a couple of juvenile devils chasing each other around their enclosure and growling and hissing at each other which is apparently what they do from a very young age. Competition for meat in the wild is rather fierce.

There is a few car parks dotted along the way to the main tracks that lead to the mountain and you have to drive through a barrier which will only let you through if there are parking spaces available.
They have a shuttle bus that goes from the large parking area at the visitors centre which takes people from tour buses and anyone else who can't get parking up as far as Dove Lake but we have not had any trouble getting parking up there.
We will go up there this evening even if we can't walk just to see what animals are around.

There are two little Pademelons huddled together outside our chalet at the moment. They look so miserable that I would love to be able to invite them in to sit by the fire.
