From Macassar to Sorong

Kabupaten Maros, Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia
We got here last evening and went to a little hotel right next to the airport. Since we weren't leaving until 3.30 am we were able to get a few hours shut eye in our tiny room, which was a welcome relief after the long day waiting in planes and airports.

Now we are back at the airport waiting to leave for Sorong with the rest of our dive group.
An hour flight and we will be ready to board our boat. Hopefully with a bit of a rest before we start our diving.

After another short flight we made it to Sorong and to the MV Seahorse which will be our home for the next 10 days.
The boat is an old wooden sailing vessel and our cabin is small as you would expect but relatively comfortable. The ensuite leaves a bit to be desired, but that's boats for you.

The other people on the trip are similar in age to us and seem like a pretty friendly bunch that should be a lot of fun. Several of us went back into town this morning to get some drinks to take on the boat since the supermarket price was a lot better than what they are charging on the boat. We walked back through the town and along the wharf and were entertained by several small boys who were leaping off the boats into the filthy water. They must have very strong immune systems to survive that water but they were having fun.

Lunch was a grand affair with a tasty 3 course meal of salad, followed by chicken with vegetables and rice and then fresh fruit. I don't think I'll be able to eat like that every day or I'll end up the size of a house!

Now we are on our way to Misool where we will have our first dive tomorrow morning. It is 96 miles away so we will travel overnight to get there. I'm hoping there will be some Mantas to greet us when we get there!
