Our rendezvous was in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We left Washington at different times, on different itineraries. They all converged on Minneapolis at 4 pm, to board the final leg to Anchorage. It was tense. Ellie and I wandered around Gate F4 in anxious circles, looking for Mama and Gordon. Finally, as the call went out to begin boarding, we saw them trundling in towards us through the crowd. Or rather I saw them, and yelled to Ellie not to board, so we could all exchange hugs. It takes for ever to get to Anchorage, and we were scattered all over the airplane. I took an orange juice on the leg from a seven month old, Ellie was jammed into the back corner by the bathrooms, and Gordon and Mama talked to each other up front.
Once in Anchorage we suffered through the usual -- lost luggage, interminable wait for the rental car, getting lost trying to find the hotel
. We finally collapsed at 10:30 pm (3:30 am Washington time) without dinner in a room filled with the eternal sunshine of the North.
