Day 18 - Arlington and Home

Arlington, Virginia, United States
Home again. Spent yesterday motoring slowly down from Mass in the heat. My choice of a route was not the best. Bob looked at it and said in his quiet way ... "lots of stoplights on this route" and boy was he right ! And construction. And speed zones ! I have lived to regret my light hearted response ..  "Oh thats OK, I love stop lights".  Routes 7 and 44 out of Western Massachussetts, through Connecticut and New York over to Route 209 and the Delaware Water Gap were really slow... by the time I hit East Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania at 4 pm I was ready to die from the heat. I gave up on the scenic route and logged on to the freeway system. In three hours I was in Harrisburg for the night.

They call it "riding the slab" in biker lingo . It means getting onto the freeway, putting the speedometer (if you have one) at 65 - 70 and hanging on hour after hour. Its how I got through Pennsylvania. I did it again from Harrisburg on down to Frederick and Washington today -- and it only took some three hours.

It is so nice to be home, some 5,301 miles from Anchorage. Thanks to all who followed, particularly those with comments. I really appreciate your interest and support. Talking to you all through this blog every evening is a new and wonderful dimension to traveling.   You should try it !!!

Glad you returned home safe and sound. Wow, "riding the slab", what a great saying. We were very grateful to be on your "non-slab" travel route.
