Sarlat-la-Canéda, Aquitaine, France
After a hearty breakfast we left the hotel about 8:15 AM, It took us about an hour and a half in rush hour traffic to get to Albi. After the bus dropped us off in the center of town, we walked over to the cathedral for a brief visit. We then went to the Palais de la Berbe an ancient fortress that houses the works of Toulouse-Lautrec. Our TD gave us a tour of some of his major works explaining the importance and history of each. Walked around the museum gardens then across one of the oldest bridges in Europe to get a better view of the city. We had lunch near the museum which was a bargain compared to the day before and with much better food including a great éclair. We then went back to the bus pick up area for our 1:45 PM rendezvous. Made it to Sarlat-la-Caneda after driving through hilly countryside and some small towns/villages. Took a one hour walk through the old town area before going to our hotel for the night, We got to the Hotel Meyesset just outside of town, about 6 PM. Since it had been raining over our area, we had a beautiful view of the Dordogne Valley with a rainbow. Dinner tonight was at the hotel. The main course was Guinea foul , but the unusual part was the salad which consisted of soft gizzard, smoked duck strips, and walnuts (a specialty of the area). Finished at 9:30 and went to bed in a cool room on a full stomach. The temperature today was in the 40's with rain. Hoping for a few degrees warmer tomorrow.
