Drive to Samur in Loire Valley via Le Dorat

Saumur, Pays de la Loire, France
Left the hotel at 8:30 AM for the 230 mile drive to Saumur. We stopped for lunch in Le Dorat at a restaurant owned by a British couple. Had a little free time after lunch to stretch before 3 more hours of driving. We got a lot of information from Fanny on the drive pertaining to WWII and some ancient history including the 100 year's war. The drive was mostly on small back roads through little towns. We have noticed that some bridges can only be used for one direction at a time and some of the roads are so narrow it is amazing two vehicles can pass each other. There have been a few times when cars and other buses have had to back up to make room for us. There are some old houses near Saumur that are built right into the cliffs. Makes for a great wine cellar. We arrived in Saumur about 4:30 PM and were given a short walking orientation tour of the city. The hotel we are in, Anne d'Anjou , is in a building dating back to the 1700"s. Our room looks out over the Loire River (only about 50' away). We feel like we are in an old castle that has been modernized. Had dinner at Cote Jardin a creperie not too far from the hotel. We each had a different type of chicken crepe. Have a late start tomorrow so we can sleep in for a change
