Saumur wine tasting and free time

Saumur, Pays de la Loire, France
Didn't have breakfast until 9 AM today and met the group at 10:30 for the ride to the Bouvet Ladubay Winery. They make sparkling wines but they can't be called champagne since they are not from the Champagne region. We were given a tour into the caves of the winery where the wine is aged. Afterwards we sampled 3 different sparkling wines, two whites and one red. Prefer straight wines. The bus dropped a group of us off at the Chateau, a large fortress above the town (and our hotel). Since the Chateau was closed until 2 PM, we all had lunch at the Panorama Cafe. After lunch we walked the grounds of the Chateau but opted not to go inside since it was more of a museum than anything else. We then walked back to the city with another lady. Relaxed a little then took a walk around the town in a different direction than the night before. There are some nice side streets to enjoy the old style architecture. Checked out some restaurants for tomorrow night. A lot of things are closed today since it is May 1 and a bank holiday. We had dinner tonight in the restaurant owned by the hotel (across the courtyard) after having drinks with the owner of the hotel. Our choice of trout was a good one. All the meals so far have been very good. It was nice to have a leisurely day.
