Giverny and Paris, from countryside to city

Paris, Île-de-France, France
Left early for the 2 hour drive to Giverny to visit impressionist painter Claude Monet's home and garden.   On the way we learned everything about Monet's life that you ever wanted to know. We had our first real rainy day but it wasn't terrible. It actually added to the pictures of the flowers in Monet's Japanese garden where his famous lily pad painting was originated. The flowers were marvelous. We toured his house which contained a lot of reproductions of his work, but the house has been restored to the condition when he was living in it. We ate at a small café near his house and then drove about an hour to Paris, where we had a brief driving tour around the Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, etc. Arrived at the hotel about 5 PM. It is one block off the Champs-Elysees. We have another large room. Went out to dinner to Pret Mamger Marbeuf for a healthy light bite with Andrew and Karen. Then walked around a little before stopping in Laduree for les macrarons a very unhealthy finish to the day. The place was jammed. Lines in, lines to buy, and lines to check out. Tomorrow is the French elections. They are shutting down the Champs-Elysees to all traffic through Monday. Should be an interesting day/night.
