Free Day in Quito

Quito, Ecuador
Tried to sleep in but to no avail. Met the 2 Joes, Eileen and Nancy for our last Celebrity paid breakfast in the Marriott Bistro. It was a beautiful morning so we ate outside. Later in the morning we took a taxi to the local mall and park with Joe and Eileen. It turned out today was a national holiday similar to our 4th of July. The park was crowded with families enjoying the paddle boats and the park in general.   We walked through the mall which had the usual stores plus some local chains. The department store was pretty upscale and very nice. After we got back to the hotel we went up to the executive floor with Joe and Eileen who are members and had some snacks and coca tea. The tea is a cure all for anything that ails you. After a short walk around the hotel, we sat in the lobby and talked for awhile then we said our goodbyes and went up to our room to finish packing, cleanup and order in our room service dinner before leaving for the airport at 8:30 PM. Checking in at the Quito airport is quite an experience. We must have shown our passport six times before entering the waiting area. Upon entering the waiting room, our hand luggage was thoroughly searched (this after going through a security scan) and we were frisked, including having our shoes checked. Better too much security than not enough. It was a lot more thorough than in the US. Left Quito on time at 11:30 PM. They served breakfast at midnight for some strange reason. We passed except for the fruit.
