Day in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands
Amsterdam. This port stop is only 6 hours so had to cover a lot in a short time. Got off the ship about 8 AM and walked to the Anne Frank House about 1.5 miles from the ship. It was a nice walk along picturesque canals. Since it was Sunday and not yet crowded, we got right in. It was a self-guided tour and was an amazing experience seeing the conditions that Anne, her family and others lived in for 2 years. We then walked to Dam Square, saw the Royal Palace, people watched, took pictures then walked through the red light district. The song that came to mind was “How much is that doggie in the window.” You can get high just walking through the area past the coffee shops where pot is legal. It was a quick stop but very enlightening. After leaving port, we exercised in the gym for a little then went in the spa and the thalassotherapy pool. The entertainment before dinner was Leslie Hamilton an English West End singer. She was very good. Did a lot of show tunes. Dinner was formal and to our surprise about half the men were in tuxes. We understand that on Celebrity the European cruise people tend to dress up more than we Americans.
