Touring Berlin

Berlin, Berlin, Germany
Took the train from Waramunde to Berlin, a 3 hour ride. On the train we sat opposite a Jewish couple from London area, Wendy (60) and Stewart (62) Hillman. Stewart was equivalent to our CPA. We talked all the way to Berlin. As it turned out we spent a lot of time with them in other ports. The train ride wasn’t bad. We had a very nice high school girl serving us a snack and generally taking care of us. She stayed with us on the tour and traveled with us on the 2.5 hour return to the ship. Upon arrival in Berlin, we met Wendy who would be our guide for the Jewish History tour. She went to Canoga Park High School, UCLA and got a Masters Degree in Berlin. The Diamonds had the same guide in 2005. We saw the remains of the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, the Brandenburg Gate, the Holocaust Memorial, Jewish Museum and the New (old) Synagogue. The synagogue had a 3000 seat sanctuary before being destroyed by American bombers during WWII. We then went to the memorial at the sight of the student book burning in the 30’s before catching the train back to the ship. We got back in time for our late dinner seating. It was a long but very interesting day.
