Visiting Helsinki

Helsinki, Uusimaa, Finland
Arrived in Helsinki at 10 AM. This is the only port where the ship’s shuttle service is worthwhile. We toured the town on our own following Rick Steves walking tour in most cases. Started out at Stockmanns (department store) which is equivalent to London’s Harrods). We use hotels and department stores for clean restrooms. Next we walked to the Temppeliauko Church (Church in the Rock) then went through a small local museum before visiting Uspenski and Lutheran Cathedrals, Senate Square, Market Square (outdoor flea market), the Esplanade where there was an outdoor concert in progress. Since we were ready for a rest, we went to the library near the train station for free internet access. The library and post office were in the same building. Took the shuttle back to the ship for our 6 PM departure. Had a light snack and tea, rested a little then off to dinner and a somewhat early bedtime since we had to be ready for our early St. Petersburg tour the next day.
