Touring Tel Aviv and Old Jaffa

Tel Aviv, Israel
We started our first full day in Tel Aviv with a large Israeli breakfast at our hotel. Left the hotel about 9 AM to go to the Diaspora Museum (being renamed the Israel Museum). We were given a wonderful tour by a student/docent for 1.5 hours. It was very interesting and informative working through the various cycles of Jewish life. We then went to old Jaffa for lunch. We weren't hungry, so we strolled around the flea market area and went to the Mediterranean shore to cool off. It has been in the high 90's with humidity. We then went to the Ayalon Institute, a secret factory camouflaged on a kibbutz that made millions of bullets for the The Haganah. We toured the underground factory area. It was an amazing setup hidden under the laundry and never discovered by the British. We then returned to Old Jaffa late in the day to walk through the narrow streets to learn about the history of the area. There were at least 10 wedding parties of many nationalities there for pictures and ceremonies. It was quite a sight. Our guide played a song on his flute for one of the couples. Had dinner at the Punch Line restaurant where they had singing waiters to entertain us. One thing about the availability of food on the trip-we definitely won't starve. Finally made it back to the hotel about 8 PM.
