Haifa, Israel
Today we left the hotel at 9 AM for an optional tour to Tel Megiddo and a Druze Village (town). It was amazing how quiet Haifa was as we left. Tel Megiddo was where Michener got his inspiration for The Source. Tel Megiddo contains 25 layers of civilizations, one on top of the other. Part of the tour included going down 180 steps into the tunnel system that was used to supply water for the community. Next we went to the Druze village for a talk by one of the local young Druze man who is also in the Israel Military Defense Forces. . He spoke to us in a local home about their history, culture, etc. Had lunch at the home after our discussion. Had a lot of different types of food compared to the Israeli meals. We got back to the hotel about 2 PM. A group of us took a long walk by the Baha'i Garden area and through town. Being Shabbat, everything was closed except the restaurants. Had some downtime before another delicious dinner at a local Haifa restaurant. Made the mistake of having some Turkish coffee with dessert which didn't help our sleep for the night.
