To the Galilee via Akko & Safed

Kinneret, Northern District, Israel
After our typical Israeli breakfast, we left the hotel at 9 AM and toured the lower part of the Baha'i Gardens. Next we went to the Haifa University and visited the Hecht (archaeological) Museum and art gallery. Since our guide is an archaeologist (PhD), we got some great explanations of the exhibits. Next stop was the Roman fortress at Akko. We spent two hours walking around the area including going through several extensive tunnel areas that were used by the Crusaders for escape back in the 1099 to 1200 time period. Also saw the area where members of the Haganah were held captive during the fight for independence. Akko is where "Exodus" was filmed. Had a quick lunch break at 2 PM then started the 1 hour drive to Safed, the center of mystic Kabbalism. Walked through Safed and visited the Synagogue and art galleries. Travelled down the hill from Safed at 2700' to our Kibbutz Nof Ginosar situated at -600' elevation on the shores of Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee). The hotel is run by members of the kibbutz. It gives you the feeling that you are in a dorm although you are in a hotel. There was, for example, an iron and ironing board in the hall for general use. Had a nice dinner in the huge dining room in the main building.
