Haifa, Israel
We had another big breakfast at the hotel before leaving for Independence Hall at 9 AM. We were given a talk and shown a short film about the history of Tel Aviv and the signing of the Israel Declaration of Independence. Then we visited the hall where the actual declaration was signed on May 14, 1948. We were given a presentation about the events on the day of the signing. We then drove to Caesarea where we visited the Roman ruins, theater and ancient aqueduct that is 2000 years old. Caesarea is on the Mediterranean and is a gorgeous setting. Had a great falafel at a restaurant on the beach then went to Atlit, a British detention compound for Jewish immigrants who arrived in Israel illegally during the British mandate. We arrived at our hotel on Mt. Carmel in Haifa (great views) late afternoon. Haifa is built on hills like San Francisco. We had a short Shabbat Service in the hotel dining room then a buffet dinner.
