To Eilat via Dead Sea & Massada

Eilat, Israel
Happy Halloween. The "holiday" is not celebrated over here. Today we had an early breakfast and left the hotel at 8 AM. We drove immediately to Mt. of Olives to see the view of the old city with the sun behind us. It is a nice view and we beat most of the other tour groups. It is amazing to see the city so alive on Sunday (like our Monday). Next stop was Masada National Park. After a short movie, we rode the cable car to the top of Masada where Yossi gave us a history from Roman times to approximately 74 CE when the Jewish rebels/freedom fighters took their own lives rather than become Roman slaves. Our next stop was something we were really looking forward to. Floating in the Dead Sea. It is everything the pictures show. You can't sink. You do feel like you took a bath in motor oil, but it is supposedly good for the skin. We stopped at Yodfata on the way to Eilat to taste the Israeli chocolate milk that originated on a kibbutz. Good excuse for a pit stop. The area we are in at Eiliat looks like a small Las Vegas. In fact we were told it was founded by the same types of people that founded and built Las Vegas. After dinner we strolled along the Red Sea boardwalk with its many shops and restaurants. It seems to be a town for young people. They were everywhere enjoying themselves. We have a 12 hour day tomorrow going to and returning from Petra.
