Touring around Cairns

Cairns, Queensland, Australia
Day 4 – We were picked up at 7am for an all day tour (arrived back at hotel at 630pm) to Daintree Rainforest, Cape Tribulation and Mossman Gorge. The rainforest is a National Heritage Site and dates back 120 million years. Since it is a rainforest, naturally it rained on and off all day. We had a great guide at Daintree-very knowledgable. She even collects Cassowary (endangered bird) droppings to get the seeds to replant for the purpose of sustaining endangered plant species. Cape Tribulation is where Captain Cook ran aground and had to dispose of all of Joseph Banks botany samples in order to save his ship. Had a nice bbq lunch in the rainforest before taking a cruise on the Daintree River where we say a Croc snoozing on the banks (see photos) and some great looking birds. Mossman Gorge was used as a training site during the Vietnam War to replicate jungle conditions.
