The Great Barrier Reef

Cairns, Queensland, Australia
Day 5 - Another early morning and long day (645am to 6pm). Went to the Great Barrier Reef (Agincourt Ribbon Reefs) on the edge of the Continental Shelf by the Coral Sea. Seas were very rough with strong currents which made snorkeling very difficult.   We did make it into the water in our wet suits but it was tough going. Next time we would opt for an island setting for snorkeling. The seas were really high going back to Port Douglas. Ginger tablets work great to prevent sea sickness. They did feed us well all day on the catamaran. Had a nice dinner at a local pub. Diane had Barramundi, a fish caught in the Tasman Sea. It was excellent and similar to sea bass. Believe it or not the local market and general store here is Woolworths. Also have a lot of Kmarts in the suburbs.
