Hobart, Tasmania, Australia
Day 15 – After coffee and sweets at Starbucks, we were picked up for our tour of Port Arthur this morning at 9pm. Port Arthur is about 1.5 hours from Hobart and was the penal settlement in Tasmania from 1830 through 1877. It has a fascinating history. We had an overview talk about the colony, a boat ride with a separate island tour of the prisoner's cemetery called Isle of the Dead, and visited some of the restored buildings. In between, we squeezed in lunch. Had a great pumpkin soup, chicken/camembert pie and a lamington for dessert (all for less than $14.00).

On the way back to Hobart we saw the Tasman Arch (a natural rock arch carved out by the ocean) and Devils Kitchen-a rough outcroppings of rocks in the ocean where prisoners were killed trying to escape. Had dinner at Sals at Battery Point followed by a great slice of chocolate truffle at the Salamanca Bakehouse. Guess we are eating our way through Australia.
