Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Day 17 – Had a quick breakfast in our hotel before our 730am pickup for our city tour. Everyone seemed to be late due to the time change. It was an interesting tour with photo ops of the Sydney Opera House and bridge, etc. Saw a lot of mega million dollar homes over-looking the harbor. They are having a major problem over here similar to ours with people losing homes due to the mortgage rates. Visited Manly Beach, a well known surfing area and site of the 2002 Olympic volleyball games. We learned that most of their lifeguards are volunteers. After the tour we walked along Darling Harbour over to Paddy's market which is a huge flea market similar to Victoria Market in Melbourne but in a multi-story warehouse. We had a Greek lunch then checked out Hyde Park, Parliament House, and Hyde Park Barracks. Went over to the Hard Rock Café near the park, but it closed permanently Oct 22.   Had a tea break at our hotel (actual relaxation for an hour), then went to Chinatown for dinner at BBQ King. It was excellent although a main dish is twice what we pay. We went back to the hotel and had a glass of wine with a couple (the Coles) we met earlier on our tour. They live in Albuquerque. He has been in the Air Force for 25 years, is stationed at Kirkland AFB and spent a year in Afghanistan (which is unusual for AF personnel).
