Aoraki Mount Cook, South Island, New Zealand
Day 21 – Three weeks already. Where has the time gone? Picked up our car (Toyota Camry) from Hertz at 9am, drove it back to the hotel to get our bags and headed out of town. Only problem was we drove north for about 10 minutes instead of south. Driving on the left not quite as bad as we thought it would be. Have made a lot of turns using the windshield wiper as a turn signal though. As we left Christchurch we drove through the Canterbury Plains stopping for a lunch break at a roadside park and then ventured into the Aoraki/Mt. Cook area. We passed Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki two fantastic turquoise-blue lakes. Driving in New Zealand is like going from one picture postcard to another. We arrived at Mt. Cook about 4pm. After checking in we took a short walk through what seemed like a miniature rainforest. Dinner and breakfast at the hotel were included (since there was no other place to eat). Both were buffets and they had a pretty good selection. They get a lot of Asian tourists through the hotel and they had many selections for them as well.
