Dunedin, South Island, New Zealand
Day 23 - Slept in until 9am this morning. That was different. Had breakfast in our room – juice and muffins from the market, coffee gratis of hotel. Walked through town to the visitor center then to the railroad station. What a great old building. They had the center of town blocked off, since they were shooting a movie. Thought we landed in Hollywood. Drove out to the Otago Peninsula and visited Larnach Castle, the only castle in New Zealand. The castle has been restored to its original condition and the gardens with all the flowers blooming are magnificent. Had a lunch break in the patio outside the old grand ballroom, toured the gardens then drove out to the Royal Albatross Center to hopefully catch some views of the Royal Albatross in flight. We were not disappointed. The bird with a wing span exceeding 10 feet is a sight to behold. The roads around the Otago Peninsula rival anything we have ever driven-they are narrow, curvy and gorgeous. The speed limit varies but we probably didn’t exceed 30 mph very often. In some cases, two cars had difficulty passing each other. It also drizzled on and off today. Tonight it is dinner at a popular Italian restaurant that we couldn’t get into last night.
