Te Anau, South Island, New Zealand
Day 24 -  Our dinner last night at the Etrusco Restaurant was a great choice. We had a leisurely dinner even though the place was mobbed. One thing over here, they don't rush you through meals. The restaurant was crowded because students and faculty were celebrating the end of the school year. Their terms run differently from ours. There have been fireworks for the last two nights to celebrate Guy Faulke’s Day (similar to our 4th of July).

We left Dunedin for Te Anau after a quick stop at the market for some muffins. We drove through rolling hills with pastures of sheep and cows (yes, there are more sheep than people in New Zealand). Stopped in Lumsden for brunch then continued to Te Anau the "trailhead" for our journey tomorrow to Milford Sound. It drizzled on and off today. Hopefully we will have good weather for our cruise of the Sound. After checking in at the hotel, we took a walk along Lake Te Anau (the largest lake of the South Island). Wandered through the huge city of 5000 people (that took 20 minutes). Checked out places for dinner and our early breakfast tomorrow. Had dinner at The Ranch. They had a Sunday special. We had lamb with mixed fresh vegetables including pumpkin and potatoes for $12.50 each. Most places in town get $30 for a meal without the trimmings. Naturally this place was crowded and all the others were empty.  Forgot to mention the gasoline situation here. We filled up the car yesterday with almost 12 gallons (44+liters). The cost was $75.00 (equates to about 6.40/gallon). We like the liter price better: $1.69/liter Guess we won’t complain about the prices at home anymore. Passed a major milestone today. Actually used the windshield wipers for what they were intended.
