Seeing the condors and a long road trip

Puno, Peru
Up at 5 today, buffet breakfast at 5:30, then got picked up at 6:30 for the approximate 1 hour drive on gravel roads to Condor Canyon to see Condors of course. It was about 34 degrees when we got up this morning (our room was 64) and it didn't warm up until about 10. We saw about 8 condors flying at various times. They would fly, rest, then fly again. In flight they are quite a sight. This is a long way to go for some people who don't get to see the Condors fly. How disappointing that would be. We back tracked to Chivay to pick up our box lunch to eat on the way to Puno. We stopped at the same rest stop as yesterday where we got coca tea. The lunch was very good but too much food. The drive to Puno was through a high plains area with views of the snow capped Andean mountains. We spent about 7 hours in the car today traveling between destinations. Arrived in Puno, elevation about 12,500 feet, at 5, checked in at the Sonesta Posadas del Inca. Our room has a very nice view of Lake Titicaca. Took a much needed walk around the grounds of the hotel and toured the M/V Yavari at the hotel's dock. The boat was built in England in 1862 then was disassembled and reassembled at the Lake. Lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world. Had a nice dinner at the hotel tonight.
