Cusco, Peru
A quiet day in Machu Picchu City. Since our train for the Sacred Valley doesn't leave until 3:48 PM, we had a late breakfast in the hotel. Tried something different, quinoa (an edible seed) pancakes. After breakfast we took a stroll along one of the long walking paths in the rain forest surrounding the hotel. Spent some time catching up with our trip notes then took a walk into the city to peruse the craft(?) booths. Walked back to the hotel for a while to enjoy the solitude then back to the railroad station for our on-time departure of the train to Ollanta (short for Ollantaytambo). During the ride the crew served a snack then we were entertained by them with dancing and a fashion show. And big surprise, everything modeled was for sale which resuted in a buying frenzy. Arrived in Ollanta at 5:30 We were met by Wilbur and driven to our hotel in Cusco about a 1.5 hour drive, Checked in again at the Maytaq Wasin then went to Inka Grill for dinner. They had a very nice quartet playing mood music. It is Festival de Cusco today so the Plaza de Armas was very busy with singers and dancers. It seems that there is a festival for something in Peru almost everyday. We were once again approached by people trying to get us into their restaurants or in your face trying to sell you something. After dinner we took a short walk and then called it a night.
