A Leisure Day in Cusco

Cusco, Peru
The sound of firecrackers awakened us at 6 AM. We managed to doze between bursts of noise. After breakfast, we walked to the Plaza de Armas to view the festivities for the Cusco Days celebration. There was a huge parade of Army troops including a marching band, school students, and other dignitaries. It was quite a show. After 2 hours, we walked to The Monasterio, an Orient Express Hotel, to see how the other half live (sure their heat is on all the time). The courtyard was worth seeing. We then walked (panting) up the hill to San Blas, known as the artist district.of Cusco. After perusing some shops, we found a great little restaurant in the area - Jacks. We had a great second breakfast with great cappuccinos. When we left, people were lined up out the door to get in. We found out later it is highly rated in TripAdvisor. Saw an interesting sight. A motorcycle with two propane tanks, one on each side. Never saw a propane driven motorcycle before. Walked down to the Plaza de Armas after doing some shopping to watch the continuing activities. There were different troops of dancers performing in the street. It was time to return to the hotel to pack, since tomorrow we leave for Lima and then home. We had dinner at Marcelo Batata tonight. We had two outstanding dishes. Diane had lamb chops in a three cheese sauce and Jim had Alpaca in a mango & lime pepper sauce. The presentation was really special.
