Yanks Can Be Charming, Too: Peacemaker Pat

Youghal, County Cork, Ireland
Considering the difficulty with the lock on the Stangls’ door and the inoperable condition of the room’s TV, not to mention the general indigestibility of breakfast Sunday a.m., we all agreed that the hotel didn’t deserve the supplement.

Plan “A” worked to perfection and we soon found ourselves on the road to Cork and Blarney . Unable to book any B&Bs in the Blarney area, we managed to find one in Youghal.

Blarney Castle— took photos of Castle, Helen, Pat & George in foreground. Shots of ancient round towers adjoining castle. Close-up of Pat in doorway of tower. Climbed to top of castle & took photos of top of tower from “family room.” At top got wonderful view of Blarney House (old photogenic mansion of huge dimensions).

Scenic shots over water on way to Youghal.

Leaving Blarney, drove on to Youghal B&B (The Koala) where we had brief argument with the land-lady who thought we should pay a supplement. Fortunately Pat stepped into the breach and convinced her that our hotel vouchers would more than compensate her for her B&B rooms. She turned out to be a charming & gracious hostess & steered us to a good eating place (Aherne’s) up road through Youghal where we enjoyed excellent seafood dinners.
